Overview

ReelRot is a browser extension that tracks how many reels and shorts you scroll through on social media platforms. Your privacy is fundamental to how we built this product.

Data Collection

ReelRot does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers.

All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local). This includes:

• Daily and total reel/short scroll counts
• Platform breakdown (which sites you scrolled on)
• Your settings (daily limit, hard block preference)
• Achievement/trophy unlock timestamps
• Battle challenge data (names and scores you enter)

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or transfer any user data to third parties. Period.

Permissions

ReelRot requests the following permissions:

• storage — to save your scroll counts and settings locally on your device
• tabs — used only by the Nuclear Option feature to close tabs open on reels/shorts pages
• Host permissions (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok) — to run content scripts that detect when you scroll through reels or shorts. We only observe scroll events — we do not read or collect any page content, messages, or personal information.

Third-Party Services

ReelRot does not use any analytics, tracking, or third-party services. There are no ads, no telemetry, and no external network requests.

Data Deletion

You can delete all your data at any time using the Reset button in the extension popup. Uninstalling the extension also removes all stored data.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever update this privacy policy, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
